Ultra rare original (1997) version of the rare third shirt as worn when Los Merengues were victorious in the UEFA Champions League under German head coach Jupp Heynckes. Real overcame defending champions Borussia Dortmund in the semi finals, before facing a star-studded Juventus line up containing the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Edgar Davids, Alessandro Del Piero and Filippo Inzaghi. A solitary goal from Yugoslavian international Predrag Mijatović in the 66th minute ensured the trophy would go to Spain. Domestically, Real could not retain their league title, settling for a disappointing fourth place. Young striker Fernando Morientes would top-score for Los Blancos with 16 goals in all competitions
